We already pay tuition, why do we need to donate money to the school?
The Annual Fund helps keep tuitions as low as possible. Like almost all independent schools, tuition does not cover the full cost of a Chapin education. This year tuition covers only 87%.
What is the difference between the Annual Fund and other kinds of giving?
The Annual Fund goes immediately into the school’s operating budget to support the ongoing operations of the school. It helps keep tuition affordable and funds all of Chapin’s programs. For specific, long-term projects, such as building enhancements and endowment support, the school initiates a capital campaign effort.
What does the money from the AF go toward?
Your investment in the Annual Fund supports all areas of the school: academic programs, athletics, arts, teacher compensation and others.
If my family receives financial aid and I donate to the annual fund will it affect my aid?
Your contribution to the annual fund DOES NOT affect your financial aid at all. All Chapin families are strongly encouraged to contribute as 100% family participation is the goal.
Who is asked for gifts?
Everyone in the school community—parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, as well as faculty and staff. Once again, last year 100% of the faculty and staff contributed to the Annual Fund!
How much should I give?
What you give is entirely up to you. Every gift is important and appreciated. We hope you will join with us in contributing at whatever level you are capable of giving. Last year, gifts to the Annual Fund ranged from $10 to $30,000.
Why is participation so important?
All gifts to the Annual Fund matter. Many outside organizations, such as foundations and corporations, look at the rate of participation when making funding decisions; a high number of gifts is a sign of confidence in the school.
What kind of recognition do I get for giving?
Your gift will be acknowledged in the Annual Report, which is distributed each fall and listsalldonors alphabetically who contribute during that school year. Donors whose combined giving to the school reaches $500 or more are recognized underspecific leadershipcategories. You can make your gift anonymously, if you prefer, by directing the Development Office not to list your name.
Do other schools raise money or is this just something Chapin does?
Almost every independent school in the country has an Annual Fund. It is an important tool to help keep tuition affordable and to enhance children’s educational experience.
What is a matching gift?
Many companies will match charitable contributions by their employees. The company helps to support worthy causes and the employee can maximize the amount donated to the charity. Many Chapin parents work for matching gift companies—please check with your human resources department to see if they will match your gift.
