Sometimes referred to as the “royalty” of Chapin School, the Pre-K students are our pride and joy. They are welcomed at All-School assemblies, greeted warmly by members of their "family group" and adored by the entire school community. Whether they are performing at a holiday concert or talent show, or on their way to computer, library, gym or art classes, the Pre-K students know they are important members of the Chapin community.
The goals of Chapin’s Pre-Kindergarten year center on fostering a love of learning as well as on the development of positive school experiences. By forming friendships with new classmates and with teachers, children make great strides in their social-emotional development, all the while being exposed to Chapin’s Character Development Program and its emphasis on Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Kindness and Perseverance. Through age appropriate learning experiences, children’s cognitive growth is also encouraged and supported.
Children explore the pleasure of books and their own emerging literacy skills. Math is introduced in hands-on and real world applications. The Pre-Kindergarten year is one that allows for a great deal of parental involvement through classroom visits and sharing with the children. It forms a perfect bridge between home and school.
