| 02/24/12 A fusion of dance, story and drama, the artist-educators of The Seventh Principle teach about both African dance and culture and the history and origins of African-based culture in America. Throughout the recent program at Chapin, the members of The Seventh Principle explained why the people of Africa dance, why they use costumes, and why music is so important to what they do. The informative and interactive performance focused mainly on the culture of West Africa and students were delighted to join the performers onstage to learn drumbeats and dance movements. |

| | Jeff Epstein Paintings |
| 2/8-3/3/12 The Gallery at Chapin will feature the work of Jeff Epstein in an exhibit entitled “Intersections of the Man-Made and Natural Worlds.” “My paintings,” states local painter Jeff Epstein, “explore the intersection of the natural and man-made landscapes, often at night. There are indications of human presence yet no actual figures are included. The results of interactions between people and nature are not always dramatic, extreme or easy to classify as either positive or negative. There exists a nuanced space where moments of natural beauty are interrupted by man-made intrusions, where disruption and harmony are both possible and the ordinary and sublime coexist, sometimes uneasily. It is that balance that I want to describe.” |
