They say that you really know something after you've taught it, and if this is the case, the Fifth Grade are experts in Greek gods and goddesses. They've worked since early April, writing, re-writing, and fine tuning their scripts until they were nearly perfect. Please also check out Smug-Mug for over three hundred images of the play and practice. |

Using a variety of methods, Mr. Johnson, originally from Trenton, helped define his philosophy while teaching students that the means of telling a story can be very diverse. Using chants, drums, wooden boxes and his imagination, he pointed out that there are many ways to accomplish a goal. |

No better way to enjoy the rich variety of music than to relish in the incredible depth of musical talent at Chapin. Almost every kind of music, from oldies to classical to pop to a blend of exquisitely arranged pieces, courtesy of Mrs. Melegrito and Dr. McDonald were custom crafted to tingle your innermost joy for music. Though it took these students nearly three months to learn the selections, it seemed as each one was played from the heart. Congratulations to all who were a part of this most awesome concert! Even more fun to view photographs at SMUGMUG! Happy Spring! ! |

Rube Goldberg Projects--Grade Eight |
Rube Goldberg was an artist whose amazing specialty was to use as many simple machines as possible to do a simple thing, such as to pour cereal and milk into a bowl. We won't give away the ultimate goal of each of the student projects this year, only to say that the students are wracking their brains to come up with creative ways of bring about the end result, which will be shown to all in just a few short weeks. We look forward to their endeavors! |

Chapin Runathon Treated With Cool Day! |

This year's Runathon had designs courtesy of Chapin students and a motto: "Don't talk about the change---Be the change!" courtesy of Reid C. of the 8th Grade. The Runathon has generated over $650,000 for charities since its inception in 1976. During the following 37 Runathons/Marathons, money has been raised for animal adoptions, cancer research, local women's shelters, Muscular Dystrophy and a host of others worthy institutions. The grass roots efforts by students, parents, faculty and friends has been heartwarming. It isn't too late to donate and make your pledge to help Kid-Bridge, which combats bullying. Chapin students always make a difference! |

PARENT & BOARD MEMBER SPEAKS TO GROUP |

Former Lawrenceville School Robotics Mentor William Freitas spoke to the Upper School Mindstorm Robotics elective on April 19th. His speech was to the point about how powerful robotics has become. Mr. Freitas' Lawrenceville students went on to place 2nd in a World Robotics competition. One of his students, Alexandra Poreda '04 was a Chapin alum and her Lawrenceville team partner impressed the judges with a geisha robotic display that showed incredible understanding of the concepts and use of the robotics and programming. Mr. Freitas pointed out that students who understand and are able to successfully program these machines are much needed in the world. The robots often are called on to do jobs which are dirty, dull, and dangerous. Everyone who owns a newer car has had a robot help build their car. Robots sense, think (in a programming sense this means comparing and choosing a branch to take), and acting. Needless to say, the students were impressed with the talk and Tucker told Mr. Freitas that he had "the best job in the world..." |

THE KING AND I |
Photos by Mrs. McCarthy & Mr. Gingo |

Each year, Mrs. McCormick & Mrs. Melegrito embark on a grand adventure with Upper School students interested in singing, dancing, and the challenge of a good musical to work with. This year was no exception. The stellar ensemble worked steadily through the year with intricate choreography, singing, and split-second changes. There is no doubt that The King and I will have a lasting effect upon each of the students. Student musicians practiced over and over to make each scene come alive. The Rogers & Hammerstein musical was based on the 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon. Believe it or not, it was based on the real-life Anna, who was governess to the King of Siam wayback in 1865. More photos are available on Smug Mug!
