Save the date for this year's 37th annual Chapin Runathon. You heard right, Chapin has been running for a cause since 1976-77, when Steve Gingo organized the very first event.
Of course, back then it was called “a marathon of endurance” with runners running in six or eight person teams. Each runner would run a mile, then wait for the relay of the other runners on his or her team to finish before starting the next mile. After two years as a 24-hour event, the Runathon was adjusted to one day, enabling broader participation from the school community. Today, students from all grades, as well as family members and friends join to run or walk for a worthy cause.

As always, one half of the net proceeds will go toward Chapin’s endowment for financial aid. This year, the Student Council has designated the other half to go toward Kidsbridge. Kidsbridge is a non-profit organization with a mission to “disseminate the urgent message of anti-bullying, non-violence, tolerance and diversity appreciation to youth, families and teachers.” To expand its impact, Kidsbridge created the Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum, on the campus of The College of New Jersey, (a.k.a. learning lab), “the only youth tolerance museum in the United States.” |
