I fell in love with teaching while I was educating guests about otters and sea stars at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. It was then that I decided that I wanted to dedicate my life to inspiring young minds through exploring and learning about our amazing world.I am thrilled that I get to continue doing what I love as the lead teacher for Chapin’s 4-Year Old Explorers Program. After working at Shedd, I went on to be an educator at Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo. In my first role at the zoo, I was out on zoo grounds everyday, educating hundreds of guests about animal adaptations, animal welfare, and conservation. After earning my master’s degree in education from DePaul University, I became the curriculum developer for the zoo’s conservation camp program, attended by over 1,300 students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade, focused on inquiry-based, experiential learning.
I could not be more excited that we are incorporating nature play into Chapin’s Explorer curriculum. Working at the zoo, I saw hundreds of kids inspired by nature and thoroughly engaged in learning. In our 4-Year Old Explorers program, I am so looking forward to spending lots of time outdoors with the Explorers and creating opportunities for them to develop an understanding of what they see around them, create and test hypotheses about how things work, and become totally immersed in their learning.
