Academics

Chapin is a school for preschool through eighth grade in Princeton, NJ. We keep classes small, teach a strong academic foundation at every level, and hold every student to the same five values- Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Kindness, and Perseverance- from their first days at school through their final year.

We organize the school into four communities, each made up of adjacent grades with its own faculty leader and a curriculum tailored to their age group. The communities let students build close, lasting relationships with teachers and classmates, and let each child practice the character and community skills appropriate to their age.

The four communities

• Wilby Community- Explorers 3 & 4 and Kindergarten
• Johnson Community- Grades 1–3
• Downtown Community- Grades 4–5
• Pasteris Community- Grades 6–8

What's the same across every community

• Small classes, with differentiated instruction in reading and math so each student is both supported and challenged.
• The five virtues woven through daily life- in classrooms, discussions, and how students treat one another.
• Learning beyond the core subjects: music and the visual and performing arts, athletics, and hands-on projects.
